The biggest Sony Smart Phone ever, the Xperia Z ultra can actually amaze you with all its features. But Is it a Tablet, Is it a Phablet or is it a phone? Well, let us find it out below.

1) DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY
At first sight, Z ultra
appears to be bulky and big enough to hold, but in reality the device weighs
212g and is just 6.5 mm thick so that it is comfortable enough to hold in your
hand. The front view of the device houses the 2 mega pixel front facing camera
which is located right next to the Sony logo.

Build quality wise, the
Xperia Z Ultra is excellent. The frames as well as the power and volume buttons
are made of metal, giving the device a premium look. The ports, micro SD card
slot and SIM card slot are located on the right and are all covered by a flap
to make the device completely waterproof.

2) DISPLAY
Now let us get into the main
asset of the Xperia Z Ultra which is undoubtedly the display, the sweet spot of
the device. The Xperia Z Ultra has the biggest display in the world’s slimmest
HD smart phone. Its massive 6.4 inch screen has a pixel density of about 344
Pixel per inch. What’s nice about the Z ultra is the viewing angles when
compared to the earlier Sony smart phones. The display is also powered by the
Triluminous display along with X- Reality engine.

Sony once again proved their
brilliance on the phone display’s by launching Z ultra. The photos on the
display looks absolutely gorgeous and brilliant and watching videos seem like
holding a Bravia tv. The other features of the screen include the ability to
use touches using metal surfaces.
3) SOFTWARE
Diving into the software,
Sony Xperia Z Ultra runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean with slight custom
modifications including the Sony UI. The device can also be upgraded to 5.0.2
Lollipop. It is pretty much stock Android with a few tweaks around the launch
and the app drawer. You can even customize the notification services as well as
apply themes.

The new launch feature helps
you to delete apps easily by swiping to the side of the launcher. Sony also did
a nice job continuing to use floating apps that were first presented on the
Xperia Z. These can be accessed by opening the multi task and selecting small
apps. There are plenty more available in the play store and the most important
ones are already pre-installed.
4) CAMERA

The camera app provides the
user with a great control over the images compared to other handsets. The HDR
feature as well as the smart auto feature works really well on the device and
the camera interface is also appreciable. Images were pretty good in daylight,
but once the light fades the sharpness and color accuracy decreases at high
ISO. Sadly, there is no LED flash built in.

The automatic mode easily
figures out the best setting to shoot the images. In addition to that you can
also choose normal mode and manually set the functions. It also has a wide
range of picture effects available like miniature, vivid, kaleidoscope etc.
Even when the phone shakes
during capture, the details look decent.
5) PERFORMANCE
The device excels in terms of
the performance that it offers. The Xperia Z Ultra is one of the first devices
in the market that sports snapdragon 800 chip-set. It is powered by a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm
MSM8974 quad core processor and features 2 GB of RAM along with an Adreno 330
graphics.
Ultimately Z ultra delivers
incredibly fast and smooth performance with its ability to multi task multiple
things at the same time without any lag or delays. The web browsing experience
and streaming videos are done with ease.
Now if you are into gaming
this device can meet all your requirements. Larger displays are a perfect fit
for gamers. The Xperia Z Ultra also has inbuilt support to connect to play
station 3 dual shock controllers.
6) BATTERY BACK UP
Moving on to battery life
that probably everyone is wondering about, the device is powered by a non
removable Li-on 3050 mAh battery. Stamina mode enables to boost the battery
performance.
The phone usually stands for up
to 1 day on a single charge, but if you are the one who likes to play HD games
and to seamlessly stream movies, then the battery would drain easily.
HOW GOOD IT IS FOR DAILY USE?

To tell you, Size wise, I
think 5 inch displays are enough and more, but I haven’t faced much trouble
during daily use. The size becomes an issue only when you need to make a call. It
is still a very good device for all those who find some apps or some other
sorts of things difficult to do with your smart phone like reading books,
playing games or even watching movies on long trips.
SHOULD I BUY THE SONY XPERIA Z ULTRA?- VERDICT

For all those who are in
search for a small tablet or a very big phone that helps you make calls Z Ultra would be a nice choice. The
device also has a new display and touch functionalities.
But if you are very much
conscious about the camera, one handed operation and pocketability, then this
device cannot meet your demands. The device stands first in terms of
performance as well as it’s waterproof and very thin design make it a beast
among other phablets. So If you can manage one handed operations and camera,
then go for it J
