Well, Motorola has finally
released the latest Moto E 2nd generation model which is definitely an
updated version because of the LTE support, Android Lollipop, much bigger
displays, interchangeable colour backs and much more. After using this device
for a few days, I am here to share my experience. So what? Let’s go ahead in detail,
examining all astonishing features one after another.
1) DESIGN AND BUILD: 8.5/10
Similar to the first generation Moto E, it is
still constructed with plastic with a slightly rounded soft touch plastic. The
phone is compact so that it could fit easily in your hands. As the backpacks
are easily removable one would feel that it would get damaged easily, but in reality
the backpack is absolutely plastic that ensures a lot of grip.
On the right, there are
volume rockers and the power button. The button feedback is appreciable. On the
top, there is the 3.5mm headphone jack and at the bottom micro USB port. Moving
on to the back, there is a 5 mega pixel camera and usual Motorola Logo.
Also the most noticeable
feature is the texture on the sides, which adds more grip. In terms of
portability, it seems to be slightly heavier at 145g. Even though it is a bit
heavy and bulky; it feels very substantial due to its size and being more
compact.
2) DISPLAY: 6/10
Display is definitely
larger compared to the previous model. It has a 4.5 inch IPS display. The screen
has a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels
which is definitely not the sharpest display comparing other budget models. The
screen is scratch free. The colors are actually quite good. They are vibrant
and vivid. The viewing angles are also pretty awesome. Display itself would be better,
but still it is after all just low resolutions and otherwise in this price
range it would be groundbreaking.
3) SOUNDS: 8.5/10
The new Moto E has a front facing speaker which is a plus because the
sound directly reaches the user while watching movies or hearing song. Also the
call quality with the speaker is extremely good and the sounds are quite
impressive for a budget smart phone. It’s quite loud, but at maximum volume, it
does have some distortion.
4) SOFTWARE: 8.5/10
Even though many other Android
smart phones are still running on Android kitkat or even jelly bean, the new
Mote E is actually running on the latest version of Android which is Android 5.0
Lollipop. The Google material design with upgraded icon designs and better
animations are awesome. With a smaller screen, it is much easier to type with
one hand and the keyboard is very responsive.
Inside settings, under the
Motorola options, there are some pretty useful features. For example, you can
set down time settings or keep the screen off while sleeping and in meetings
you can turn on auto reply to missed calls. You can also shake the phone twice
to open the camera.
5) PERFORMANCE: 7.5/10
Now, moving on to the performance, the new Moto E has a quad core
Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor at 1.2 GHz. This also has an Adreno 306 GPU
with 1 GB of RAM.
The new Moto E 2nd generation model runs on Android 5.0
Lollipop and is a very consistent device with pretty much no lag at all. It
isn’t the fastest one due to limited 1 GB of RAM and a little bit lags are
observed while switching apps. Comparatively, it is very smooth and quite nice
for a low end device.
And coming on to the gaming
performance, well the graphics look pretty good with the large screen. Only
high end games show minor lags. Performance does a great job.
6) CAMERA: 5/10
The camera has been definitely
upgraded over the previous model, but not in terms of pixels, but in terms of
processing mode. Unfortunately, Camera itself is the worst part of the phone. With
a 5 mega pixel real camera from a budget phone from Motorola, one cannot expect
much from Moto E. And there is no flash either. The pictures aren’t sharp
enough and are a little bit blurry sometimes. The focus also has troubles occasionally.
In low light, reduce in noise is observed. But sometimes you can get good
looking snaps. Also the front facing camera is just a VGA camera and again the
quality is very low. In short, Camera is terribly disappointing.
7) BATTERY: 8.9/10
The battery is sealed
inside which cannot be taken out. The previous model had only 1800 mAh battery,
but the new Moto E is powered by a Li-ion 2390 mAh battery. So the battery is
even bigger compared to the previous Moto G and Moto X. The battery is one of
the biggest strong points. Because of the low power processor and CPU, it
really doesn’t suck more juice from the device. So with moderate usage one can
easily get a full day use.
THE BOTTOM LINE: SHOULD I BUY IT?
So now what makes you think,
should you go for it or not?
In a nutshell, let me make it
simpler by sharing what are the pros and cons of the device.
So from
the above pros and cons of the new Moto E, Let me conclude that this device
cannot be considered as the best budget Android phones below 7,000 INR.

Finally, if you really want a
phone that doesn’t have all these cons, I strictly recommend Lenovo A6000 or
Xiaomi redmi 2 which also features HD display and 4G support at a similar price
tag. If you are only bothered about the latest Android lollipop, then the new
Moto E would be a nice choice J
